In 1894, Herbert M. Sturdivant came to Springdale with his mother and father from Iowa at the age of 11. He worked as a sheet metal mechanic for A.L. Emory in Springdale until Emory decided to quit the business.
In 1905, he purchased a set of sheet metal tools in Seymore, MO for $50, a few plumbing tools from Kimmons and Walker and went into business for himself.
A fire wiped out his business and inventory on New Year’s Day in 1915. He rebuilt the business and was active there until 1940 – when he died on the job.
Before he died, Herbert Sturdivant had a vision for the future of heating and air. He installed his first Lennox heating system in 1922 and became a Lennox furnace dealer in 1937. Sturdivant’s later became the largest Lennox dealer in Northern Arkansas.
His son Marston took over after Herbert died and became a leader in the plumbing industry in Arkansas. He also served as a director for the Associated Mechanical Contractors of Arkansas. Marston’s son, Herb joined the business while a teenager.
Marston and Herb were a great father-son team in the 70’s and went down in history as pioneers of heating and cooling in Arkansas.
Today, Rick Sturdivant, now the 4th generation to hold the reins, operates on the same principles his great-grandfather, his grandfather and his father did – what they said to their customers – what appeared on Sturdivant’s advertising in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s…
YOUR ASSURANCE OF COMPLETE SATISFACTION
